PLEASE NOTE: If you need an item quick, don't order from us; amazon is your best bet. We do appreciate you ordering from us directly (the author and the publisher make more from the sale this way), but due to the increased number of orders and covid-related shipping changes, our shipping takes considerably longer than it used to. Please be patient, as it can take 2 to 3 weeks to process and ship orders. Please email us about an order only if it's absolutely necessary. We REALLY appreciate your patience for this, and appreciate your business! THANK YOU!

"Emil Pallenberg & Snookums" Received a Laurel in this Year's 2025 IndieFEST Film Awards Competition

Receiving a laurel in a film competition means that your entry was recognized for its achievements at the festival. A laurel indicates that a film won an award, was selected to be screened, or received a special mention. My video of "Emil Pallenberg & Snookums" has been awarded a laurel by The IndiFEST Film Awards for having been selected by their jurors for consideration in the competition – and they specifically referenced my "desire to bring Emil’s work to life" . The underlying basis for this submission of the video is my book, "Pallenberg Wonder Bears – From the Beginning", published by BearManor Media (no pun intended) in 2022. The book is an historical biography, which follows members of a Cologne, Germany family from the mid 1800s to the present, profiling those who immigrated to the United States and those who did not. Joseph was an animal anatomist and renowned sculptor. Christian was an engineer who patented his inventions and eventually worked in the Detroit auto industry. And Emil (1888-1963) trained acrobatic bears, eventually headlining in Vaudeville and Ringling owned circuses.  Considered to have been the greatest bear trainer of his time, he taught by example, as well as by using his gentle voice and hand signals.  In 1908 he became the first person to teach a bear to ride a bicycle and later taught his bruins to roller skate, play musical instruments and walk the tight rope.  Emil’s bears appeared in three major motion pictures -- and one was on Broadway for over a year in a Jerome Kern/Oscar Hammerstein musical. Snookums was his last.   Yet when Emil and his Wonder Bears were not performing, they all lived harmoniously in the little shoreline town of Clinton, Connecticut.
