PLEASE NOTE: If you need an item quick, don't order from us; amazon is your best bet. We do appreciate you ordering from us directly (the author and the publisher make more from the sale this way), but due to the increased number of orders and covid-related shipping changes, our shipping takes considerably longer than it used to. Please be patient, as it can take 2 to 3 weeks to process and ship orders. Please email us about an order only if it's absolutely necessary. We REALLY appreciate your patience for this, and appreciate your business! THANK YOU!

All About Jack Benny's Polar Bear, Carmichael, a Pallenberg Wonder Bear

At the end of 1939, Emil Pallenberg went to contract with Paramount Pictures, enabling his Wonder Bear, Mischka, to play the role of Carmichael, Jack Benny's polar bear, in the feature film,  Buck Benny Rides Again.  Carmichael's story is at  https://www.otrcat.com/carmichael-mischka-jack-benny-polar-bear and was also the center-spread article in the March issue of the Mensa Bulletin.   You can read more about Carmichael (aka Mischka), as well as the life of her owner and trainer, Emil Pallenberg (1888 to 1963), in the historical biography, Pallenberg Wonder Bears - From the Beginning, by Peggy Adler and Dibirma Jean Burnham, which was published in the fall of 2022 by BearManor Media (no pun intended). This 206 page book, whihc has been nominated for the 2023 Thayer Prize (https://circushistory.org/thayerprize/), is available at BearManor's website, as well as on-line at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Books-a-Million ... or thru any brick and mortar bookstore whose distributor is Ingram.
