They were but a few steps away from the entrance to the hotel when Annie was stopped dead in her tracks by a blood-curdling scream. It seemed to be coming from somewhere above them, gaining in volume.

Before she could look up, Mike jerked her into the safety of the archway, just ahead of the body that smacked the pavement where she had been standing, one hundred and eighty pounds of solid stock.

Annie looked at Mike, her expression one of shock and surprise. She took another look at the corpse. It was only when she turned to Mike for the second time that she found her voice.

“Gadzooks!”
