Since his death in 1969, Boris Karloff has remained one of Hollywood’s most famous performers, having shot to fame and entering film history as the Monster in Frankenstein, the 1931 Universal classic. He is still revered for his commitment to the craft of acting, his personal warmth, his professionalism, and performances in all phases of show business in a career lasting five decades. This biography is the result of years of interviews and extensive research, and examines Karloff the person, as well as the actor. His work in movies, radio, television, and the theater is explored in depth, and highlighted by those who knew and worked with him in all stages, as well as personal friends. Among those honoring Karloff, whose lives he made a difference in, are actors Julie Harris, Eli Wallach, Teresa Wright, Tom Bosley, Chita Rivera, Christopher Lee, Susan Strasberg, and Roddy MacDowall, directors Peter Bogdanovich, George Schaefer, and Robert Wise to authors Robert Anderson, Robert Bloch, and Ray Bradbury. With the support of the Karloff family, Gordon Shriver honors the life and career of this much-loved and respected performer.
